Ministry of Health reports sixth swine flu death, 197 new cases
Published in Daily News Egypt on 11 - 11 - 2009

CAIRO: Egypt reported its sixth H1N1 death on Tuesday as well as 197 new cases, according to the Ministry of Health.
A 24-year-old pregnant woman from the governorate of Sharqeya passed away after returning from Italy where she was infected, said Abdel Rahman Shahin, Ministry of Health spokesperson.
She was in Italy for a medical check up following an open-heart surgery she underwent last year, he added.
She checked into the university hospital in Zagazig on Oct. 25 and her condition deteriorated over the past three days, according to Shahin.
The death is considered the sixth not the seventh, as an earlier fatality was reported to be unrelated to the virus. According to official news portal, Egynews.net, the death of nine-year-old Mustafa Ayman Samir was caused by the conflict of drugs he was given in different clinics.
On the same day, 197 new cases of H1N1 were reported - the highest number reported in a single day since the virus first appeared in Egypt last June.
Egypt has reported a total of 2,078 H1N1 cases so far.
According to the Information and Decision Support Center, 1,918 have recovered while the rest are receiving treatment in hospitals.
Out of the 197 new cases, 129 are school students, 15 are university students and 53 cases reported outside educational institutions, all of whom reside in Egypt except for one arriving from France.
