A report issued by the Damietta Port Authority about the jetties' traffic in the port showed a growth of 1.7%, compared to the same period in 2015. The number of ships received by the port reached 233 ships in May, compared to 229 ships in May 2015. According to the report, the number of liquid bulk ships in the port declined significantly by 47.4%, as the port received 10 liquid bulk ships in May, compared to 19 ships year-on-year. Meanwhile, the number of ships of special nature in the port doubled, reaching four ships in May, compared to two ships during the same period in 2015. The number of dry bulk ships received by the port reached 65 in May, increasing 27.5% from 51 ships in May 2015, whereas the number of conventional general cargo ships received by the port declined by 1.9% in May of this year. Container ships also declined by 1.9% from 103 ships in 2015 to 101 ships in May 2016. According to the report, total trade seen through the Damietta port has increased by 11.7% in May of this year, compared to the same period last year. The port received 27m tonnes total in May compared to 24m tonnes in May 2015. Reports showed the total exported amounts of general goods through the port reached 51m tonnes in May, compared to 34.1m tonnes during the same period in 2015, with an increase of 17.1m tonnes, a growth of 52%. The report highlighted an increase in the amount of exported fertilisers by nearly 185,000 tonnes and a decline in the amounts of imported corn by 111,900 tonnes.
