Egyptian student jailed in US to be released in July Immigration authorities accepted a "Voluntary Departure"; student to remain in custody till departure date
Immigration authorities in the U.S. agreed in a hearing on Friday to deport Egyptian student Emad El-Din Al-Sayed next July, after being arrested there for allegedly threatening U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump on Facebook, his lawyer and family sources said. Al-Sayed, Egyptian national studying in Universal Air Academy in California, has been reported arrested by immigration authorities and jailed in Orange County since 12 February. Al-Sayed's lawyer Hani Bushra explained that that the authorities decided a "Voluntary Departure", which means he agreed not to fight the case and return to his country. However, Bushra added his client's appeal to be release till the date of leaving was denied. Henceforth, he will leave the U.S. "under safe guards escorting him from jail directly to New York, where he will take the Egypt Air flight to Cairo." Al-Sayed wrote on his Facabook page that he is willing to kill Donald," don't mind serving a life sentence" and "the whole world would thank him about this", according to the lawyer. The post has been taken off after the young student was investigated. Unconfirmed news reports, said that a Universal Air Academy in California official was the one who reported to FBI about the post after seeing it. His sister Ohoud Ali told Daily news Egypt that prior Al-Sayed arrest; he was investigated twice by the FBI regarding his post. The FBI considered the post as hostel content against the presidential candidate. Later on the charges against threatening trump was dropped and instead the state department cancelled his visa and been taken to jail for being In US without permission. According to Ali, the Egyptian consul in Los Angeles called the family and said he spoke to Al-Sayed and urged him to sign a document of consent that would allow the consulate to intervene in his favour. However, fearing that signing such a paper would somehow confirm ill intent, El-Sayed refused to sign, according to Ali. Daily News Egypt contacted the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, but the representative refused to comment, explaining that it is against the embassy's regulations to provide information about individuals. Meanwhile, Daily News Egypt was not able to reach the Egyptian consulate in Los Angles at the time of publishing, and the Foreign Ministry could not be reached for comment.
