Detained journalists referred to hospitals as Ministry of Interior responds to syndicate sit-in

Two detained journalists with deteriorating health conditions were referred to hospitals following a sit-in to protest poor conditions in prisons for detained journalists was launched at the press syndicate earlier on Monday.
The Ministry of Interior responded hours after announcing the start of the sit-in asserting that that the minister of interior Magdy Abdel Ghaffar instructed intensive medical care and follow-up for detained journalists in need of medical care, according to a statement from the sit-in coordinators.
Journalists Youssef Shaaban and Hany Salah Eddin were referred respectively to Al-Qabbary and Al-Manyal hospitals as Shaaban is suffering from a failing liver while Salah Eddin is need of an urgent eye surgery, according to the statement.
Earlier, journalists Hisham Gaafar and Hossam El-Sayed were transferred to prison hospitals.
Tens of journalists joined the sit-in announced earlier on Monday by prominent journalist and head of the Freedoms Committee at the Press Syndicate Khaled El-Balshy and committee member Mahmoud Kamel.
