Egyptian Islam El-Shehaby wins silver medal at 2016 Judo Grand Prix in Düsseldorf
Egyptian figures stood out in above 100 kg's division as Egypt's Islam El-Shehaby won in second place while Ahmed Wahid won in seventh place

Though Egyptian judo players did not come out on top, their performance at the 2016 Judo Grand Prix in Düsseldorf, Germany from 19 to 21 February was impressive.
In the over 100kg weight division, Islam El-Shehaby won silver and Ahmed Wahid came in seventh. Ukrainian Iakiv Khammo won gold.
South Korean judo players Won Jin Kim and BauI An won the under 60 kg division and the under 66 kg, respectively.
Japanese Shohei Ono, Belgium Joachim Bottieau, Swedish Marcus Nyman, and German Dimitri Peters won the under 73 kg, under 81 kg, under 90 kg, and under 100 kg divisions, respectively.
Egyptian judoka El-Shahaby has seen many victories throughout his sports career. He qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympics as well as the 2012 London Olympics.
In the 2010 World Judo Championships, hosted by Tokyo, he won bronze in the over 100kg division and at the 2005 Mediterranean Games in Almeria, Spain; and at the 2009 Mediterranean Games in Pescara, Italy.
In African, El-Shehaby won the open-weight class division and came in second place in the above 100 kg weight division at the 2008 African Judo Championship held in Agadir, Morocco.
In the 2006 African Judo Championships in Port Louis, Mauritius, he came in second place in the over 100 kg division and ended in fifth place in the open-weight class division. The year previous, the championships were held in Port Elizabeth, South Africa where El-Shehaby also came in second in the over 100kg and open-weight divisions. In the 2004 championships in Tunis, the judoka won gold in the open-weight division and bronze in the over 100kg division.
Cairo hosted the 2002 African Judo Championships where El-Shehaby won gold in the over 100kg division. The year before in Tripoli, he won silver in the over 100kg division and bronze in the open-weight class.
