The Algerian men's national handball team participated in the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympics, the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics and the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. As for Algeria's performance in the African championships, it has won the African championship five consecutive times in 1981, 1983, 1985, 1987, and 1989 and won the gold medal in the All Africa Games in 1973, 1978, 1987, and 1999.
