Al-Nour Party seeks support of Salafi figures in parliamentary elections
We are concerned about liberals and former NDP members taking over the next parliament, says Borhami By Mahmoud El-Sayed

Sheikhs of the Salafi Call began to contact and address Salafist figures, including Abu Ishaq Al-Heweny, Mohamed Hassaan, Mohamed Hassanein Yacoub, and Mostafa Al-Adawy, to support the party in the second phase of parliamentary elections.
The party said it aims to make up for its loss in the first phase, where it only won eight seats.
Deputy leader of the Salafi Call, Yasser Borhami, said many Islamist figures and Sheikhs of the Salafi current have failed to support the Al-Nour Party during the first phase. He added that the party addressed famous Salafi figures seeking their support during the second phase in governorates of Cairo, Kafr El-Sheikh, Daqahleya, and the Delta.
He further noted that the Salafi Call is concerned about liberal and former members of the National Democratic Party (NDP) taking over the next parliament. However, he said most figures of the Islamist current prefer to stay away from politics for the current period.
Borhami said all members of the Salfi Call and the Al-Nour Party respect their position, but still hope for their support.
"We spoke to many leaders, who said they are against the concept of elections; however, members of the Salafi Call believe we should deal with reality for the benefit of the country," he added.
Shaaban Abdel Aliem, Assistant Secretary General of the Al-Nour Party, said the party is reaching out to everyone, noting that Salafist figures failed the party during the first phase. Abdel Aliem blamed the Salafist loss on lack of support from Salafist figures.
He added that the party is still in contact with moderates of the Salafist current, seeking their support in the second phase, noting that some figures have control over provinces of Cairo and East Delta.
