Borhami warns of consequences of Al-Nour Party's withdrawal from political scene Al-Nour Party's continuity is in the interest of the country and religious youth, says Borhami
Yasser Borhamy, Vice President of the Salafi Call, attacked political scientist Moataz Abdel Fattah and Islamic thinker Nageh Ibrahim, after they called on the Al-Nour Party and the Salafi Call to move away from political work and restrict their activities to religious preaching. Borhami said the Al-Nour Party's survival is in the interest of the country and the religious youth. He added that the real problem is the millions of religious youth who are being demanded to give up all their political and security rights. He emphasised that this would lead to despair among the youth, which would culminate in an upsurge among those youth after a generation or two. He referred to the Muslim Brotherhood youth, saying they did not give up politics in 1965, despite what they suffered, noting that this resulted in social backlash in 2013. Professor of political science Moataz Abdel Fattah previously said religious currents should not be allowed to re-enter political life, during a phone call to Mehwar channel's 90 Minutes programme on Thursday evening. He further called on the Al-Nour Party to retire from the political scene entirely, and not just the parliamentary elections. For his part, Islamic thinker Negeh Ibrahim similarly called on the Al-Nour Party to depart from the political scene for a period of four years in an opinion piece.
