Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Khaled Hanafy is negotiating with the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) branch in Khartoum on ways to cooperate and partner in importing Sudanese meat.
Hanafy said the cooperation comes in the context of an agreement between the Ministry of Supply and Sudan to import meat from Sudan, according to a press statement Tuesday. The statement added that the agreement will also look into providing meat at consumer outlets at discounted price.
The minister decided to form a joint committee involving the Ministry of Supply and the NBE's Khartoum branch, to develop the bank's mechanisms to contribute to the ministry's current and future projects with Sudan.
For his part, Osama El-Meseiri, Chairman of NBE's Khartoum branch, said the bank will provide full support in all projects and agreements between the Ministry of Supply and Sudan.
El-Meseiri added that this partnership will help in providing all food commodities at competitive prices to reduce burdens on citizens in both Egypt and Sudan. He noted that there are some international companies welcome investing in the Global Logistics Centre for Grain Handling and a shopping project will be held in Damietta.
On Sunday, Hanafy held a meeting with the Heads of Supply Directorates in Egypt's governorates, to follow up on the bread and goods supply situation. During the meeting, he declared that the ministry has contracted with Sudan to import large quantities of Sudanese cattle.
Hanafy added that the ministry will import live cattle to be slaughtered at abattoirs under veterinary supervision, to provide the markets in all governorates with proper prices for low-income people.
