Egyptian Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb met with the Liberian Vice President as well as Guinea-Conakry's Prime Minister in light of his participation in the International Conference of Africa's Fight Against Ebola in Equatorial Guinea late Tuesday, state media reported.
Mehleb reaffirmed Egypt's readiness to send specialised medical convoys to assist African countries suffering from the Ebola virus.
Both Mehleb and Minister of Health Adel Al-Adawi inaugurated Wednesday the Egyptian exhibition for pharmaceutical companies and medical supplies and equipment in the Capital of Equatorial Guinea, Malabo.
Al-Adawi participated in the conference and presented the ministry's extensive plans for fighting the disease, and combating it on both the national and regional levels on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister delivered a speech during the conference and mentioned that Egypt provided EGP 150,000 worth of medical aid to African countries negatively affected by the disease.
During his meeting with Liberian Vice President Jospeh Boakai, Mehleb discussed bilateral relations and reaffirmed Egypt's sustained support to the fight against the Ebola virus in terms of expertise and general assistance.
Boakai in turn expressed his gratitude for Egypt's efforts in the fight against the spread of the Ebola virus during the past year, and welcomed the contribution of Egyptian doctors in the form of specialised medical convoys and encouraged their continuation.
Similarly, during his meeting with Guinea's Prime Minister, Mehleb stressed the need to strengthen cooperation in various fields between both countries, including the fields of research, medicine, and health protection.
Mehleb pointed out the importance of registering Egyptian medicine in African countries due to its high quality and competitive prices. He also expressed his gratitude for Liberia and Guinea-Conakry's support for Egypt's nomination to non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council 2016/17.
Concluding his speech, Mehleb stressed on the importance of strengthening research efforts to find effective means of treatment for the virus, which "poses a real threat to the African citizen".
Mehleb invited both leaders to attend the inauguration ceremony of the New Suez Canal Project, scheduled to take place on 6 August.
All three leaders further stressed the need to unify efforts in the fight against terrorism and support Al-Azhar's efforts towards a moderate Islamic discourse.
Following his visit to Equatorial Guinea, Mehleb arrived Wednesday in Italy for a three-day visit, where he is set to meet with senior officials of Italian companies operating in the automobile industry.
