Egypt Ebola-free: health minister Egypt's health minister says preventive measures are being taken to prevent the spread of Ebola with no cases detected thus far
Egypt's health minister, Adel El-Adawi, said in a press conference on Monday that Egypt is Ebola free, assuring that there have been no confirmed or suspected cases thus far. El-Adawi said his ministry is taking preventive action and is coordinating with Egypt's foreign affairs and civil aviation ministries in its efforts, reported Al-Ahram's Arabic news website. A plan to raise awareness about Ebola Virus Disease will be executed, he said, adding that Cairo's Abassiya Hospital for Tropical Diseases will be ready to receive any EVD patients. El-Adawi also added that travellers to countries where the infection has spread, including Sierra Lyon, Liberia and Nigeria, are being provided with pamphlets with information about the virus and disease and that the ministry is establishing a hotline and website to answer. Travellers coming from West African countries having infections will be tested upon arrival, El-Adawi said. An international epidemic was declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) last week, saying the current Ebola outbreak is the largest ever recorded. The WHO stated that last week there were 1711 reported cases of Ebola, 932 of whom have died. The disease's fatality rate has risen to 90 percent.
