Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, accompanied by Minister of Water Resources Hossam Moghazy, met with South Sudan President Salva Kiir on Wednesday, during a visit to South Sudan. The ministers discussed bilateral relations and the situation in Africa. During the meeting in South Sudan's capital Juba, Kiir said Egypt is the closest "sibling" to South Sudan, according to a Foreign Ministry statement. Kiir also praised the humanitarian and development assistance that Egypt provides for the people of South Sudan. Shoukry said President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi are keen on further deepening and developing cooperation between the two countries to achieve "luxury" for the South Sudanese people. The officials discussed ways of further developing bilateral relations in the humanitarian, economic and developmental fields, and Egyptian support in the areas of capacity-building and training, education, health, irrigation and fisheries. The meeting saw an exchange of views on the situation in Africa and efforts to achieve stability and development in the continent, with a focus on the situation in the Horn of Africa. Shoukry is scheduled to head to Eritrea's Asmara, where he will meet Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki. Shoukry will also hold talks with Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh on bilateral relations and the ways to develop them in all fields, in addition to a number of regional issues of common interest.
