A bomb went off on the 15th of May Bridge towards the Zamalek district of Cairo on Sunday morning. The blast resulted in the death of a police officer, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health. Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdul Ghaffar said that the explosion killed a security official in his 30s, as well as injuring the faces of two civilians nearby. The body of the deceased was taken to Agouza Police Hospital. The Ministry of Health corrected their initial statement that two died to one dead and one injured. Eyewitnesses reported on social media that one man was instantly killed and another injured was taken in an ambulance. A representative from the Ministry of Interior's press office confirmed the incident, but did not provide a specific number of deaths or injuries. Bomb explosions have been a frequent occurrence since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013. Previously explosives targeted only military and state facilities, but recently blasts have started targeting public spaces such as mobile phone network shops.
