Transportation Ministry targets $4bn investments at Economic Summit
Published in Daily News Egypt on 13 - 03 - 2015

The Ministry of Transportation aims to attract investments worth $4bn through the proposal of nine projects for investors at the Economic Summit.
Minister of Transport Hany Dahi said the summit will present the state's vision through the coming years. It will focus not only on investments, but also on encouraging the business community to participate in economic and social development. This will occur through the implementation of projects of economic value to investors and citizens.
He added that the ministry will propose the projects in the sectors of transportation and ports, to be established in partnership with the private sector.
Dahi said the projects include building an electric train East of Cairo that would connect El-Salam City to Obour City, Al-Shorouk City and El-Robiky. The high-speed train project agreement was signed with a Chinese company, and Phase I of it would extend from Alexandria to Cairo. The Chinese company is currently conducting a field study and engineering survey work for the proposed line, in addition to technical and economic studies.
Dahi also confirmed that port projects include two projects in Ain Sokhna and East Port Said Port, where their general plan was conducted in coordination with the Suez Canal Authority. There is also a project for establishing two logistics areas in 6th of October City and 10th of Ramadan in the pipeline.
"There are also two local transportation projects inside Greater Cairo to link New Cairo with Nasr City, and 6th of October City with Giza City. The two projects rely on articulated buses that use smart cards," said Dahi.
According to Dahi, projects include goods transportation projects along three axes. The first will be in Helwan to Ain Sokhna Port, the second will be in El-Robiky, and the third will be in Port Said to Ain Sokhna.
Dahi believes that these projects are part of the comprehensive development plan to apply the best multimodal transportation that fits Egypt's geographic location.
