2 policemen accused of rape released on bail
Published in Daily News Egypt on 11 - 01 - 2015

The Sharabeya Misdemeanour Court released Saturday two policemen accused of raping a girl inside a police car on EGP 1,000 bail each.
According to the Forensic Medicine Authority, the girl's body did not show signs of rape or violence. The report was published in December after she was examined by an order from the prosecution.
The incident would have taken place two weeks ago in Shubra Al-Kheima, according to a representative from Ministry of Interior's press office. The police reported had suggested that the two policemen stopped a car in which the girl was riding with a friend, and took her alone to drive her home, but instead raped her inside the police car.
Her friend who was in the car filed a police report with the incident. The investigations showed that the accused policemen were one policeman and one security personnel conscript.
At least 1,191 cases of sexual assault and harassment took place across Egypt during the second "100 days of Al-Sisi's rule", covering a time frame between 17 September to 25 December. The figures came as part of a year-end report prepared by the independent organisation Appropriate Communication Techniques (ACT), and I Saw Harassment civil pressure group.
Egypt's interim cabinet amended the harassment law and included it in the Egyptian penal code in June 2014. The new amendments escalated the penalties for any form of verbal or nonverbal sexual harassment or abuse in public or private areas, to at least six months imprisonment and a fine of between EGP 3,000 and EGP 5,000.
