A total of 67,378 tons of expired food commodities alongside 92,672 out-of-date juice boxes were caught during November by inspectors with the internal trade sector.
The latest statistics were revealed in a Saturday statement by the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, which also highlighted that the products were found in markets and shops.
As a result, 928 lawsuits were raised against the suppliers of expired goods in November, the statement added.
Expired goods included 7.5 tons of meat, 2 tons of honey, 14 tons of rice, 4 tons of pasta, 1 ton of fish and 4 tons of cooking oil.
Other products caught during inspections were cosmetics, medical supplies, leather goods, motorcycles and others, found to be fake, unfit for use and coming from anonymous sources. The total amount of such products that were caught in November was 30,690 tons and other 266,916 pieces.
According to the statement, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Khaled Hanafy stressed the inspection will continue to intensify market control. He added that there is a hotline, 19280, specifically for receiving complaints from citizens concerning harmful goods that could affect their health and safety.
Earlier in September the ministry announced that 44 tons of expired food commodities and 69 tons of expired non-food commodities were caught.
Among the food products were 1.5 tons of rice, 2 tons of cooking oil, 3 tons of sugar and 2 tons of vinegar.
