International conference to revive Downtown as heritage area via presidential commission
Published in Daily News Egypt on 27 - 08 - 2014

The government is set to hold an international conference, commissioned by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, to revive Downtown Cairo as an important Middle Eastern heritage area after transferring street vendors to a new location.
Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb said in a press statement Wednesday that "the state recovered the Downtown area from street vendors" and is now preparing to develop the area, including cleaning and adding lighting in addition to a general plan to revive the area. The Governor of Cairo and relevant ministries will also participate in the plan.
During the cabinet's weekly meeting, Mehleb added that electricity services have seen a relative improvement recently and that citizens have begun to feel the change. This is particularly in light of clear coordination between the Ministers of Petroleum and Electricity. He added that the introduction of the new project and a temperature decrease will help improve services more and more.
During the meeting, Mehleb encouraged direct communication between ministers rather than relying on inefficient ministerial correspondences and speeches to work for citizens' interests.
A statement issued by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that Egypt will begin preparations for a donors' conference to reconstruct Gaza to take place on 1 October. Shoukry also emphasised that Egypt would not intervene militarily in Libya and denied rumours of Egyptian and UAE aircraft carrying out airstrikes on sites in Libya.
The statement said that the committee meetings in Khartoum for the three relevant ministries regarding the Renaissance Dam will commission an advisory council, which will gather opinions on the various technical points relating to the dam's construction. The points will be based on what was agreed upon during a meeting between Al-Sisi and Ethiopian Ministers on the sidelines of the last African Summit in Malabo.
