A delegation from Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, visited the Children's Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357 Wednesday to present the institution with an EGP 770,000 donation.
Senior vice president of government and aero-political affairs at Etihad Airways Khaled Al Mehairbi, head of the airline's Abu Dhabi hub Ali Al Shamsi, and Eithad's general manager in Egypt Magdi Labib also distributed blankets and shirts donated by the Abu Dhabi International Airport's Ferrari Lounge to the children.
"Our donation represents the kindness and generosity of the Etihad Airways staff and the community in Abu Dhabi," Mehairbi said. "We are very pleased we can make a positive impact in the lives of the children who receive care at this hospital."
As a UAE representative, Mehairbi said: "We are pleased to reaffirm our commitment to society and give back to those in need."
Etihad raised the money through a marathon on 31 January at the Abu Dhabi Corniche, titled "Colour Their Lives". People of all ages ran in the race, which even had categories for children with special needs and mothers with children. The airline also collected donations through the sale of "Colour Their Lives" T-shirts.
Sheikh Ahmed Bin Hamdan Bin Mohamed Al Nahyan attended the race and distributed the prizes to the winners, along with Chairman of the Department of Transport Abdulla Rashed Khalaf Al Otaiba and deputy general commander of the Abu Dhabi police Major General Obaid Al Hairi Salem Ketbi.
Also attending the marathon was head of the special needs sector at Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care Mariam Saif Al Qubaisi and head of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council Talal Khouri.
Egyptian ambassador to the UAE Ihab Hammouda, delegates from the Egyptian Embassy, UAE official dignitaries, and prominent Egyptian singer Ihab Tawfeek all attended the event and presented donations to the campaign.
