Published in Daily News Egypt on 10 - 12 - 2013

Omar Samra has marked a new international achievement and earned a ticket in the last stage of AXE Apollo Space Competition in Orlando in the USA. Samra is the only Egyptian and Arab to secure a place to travel to space on a flight with international space agency, Space Expedition Corporation.
"I'm very excited with this new achievement, and I look forward to represent my country, Egypt, to which I humbly dedicate this achievement, in the space trip soon", commented Omar Samra. "I believe my mountaineering and adventure travels have given me the ability and the perseverance to successfully cope with all the mental and physical challenges associated with the final stage of space travel drills", added Samra.
107 contestants from 60 countries around the world competed in the finals in Orlando for 23 space tickets. Final space simulation tests included G Force centrifuge to test the body's ability to withstand G Forces, aptitude tests on physics and space knowledge; in addition to military assault course for stamina and strength, in which Omar finished first in his group.
"My favorite challenge was the ‘parabolic flight' in a two seated light strike fighter doing flips, rolls and maneuvers – which was meant to test our ability to withstand the G forces and stomach turning moves" added Samra.
Omar returns to Cairo on Tuesday 10 December at 7pm.
Over one million people from around the world applied at the AXE Apollo Space Academy for a chance to join Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon, to travel to space with international space agency, Space Expedition Corporation.
