Egyptian ambassador to France Mohamed Mostafa Kamel met on Thursday with the French president's diplomatic advisor to give him an official letter from Egyptian interim president Adly Mansour. According to a statement issued on the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affair's official Facebook page, the letter explained what the ministry called the 30 June "revolution" and outlined the transitional roadmap. Kamel later met with the French-Egyptian Friendship Group in the French National Assembly and phoned the group's head to "explain the events of the 30 June revolution" and the current situation. Kamel also highlighted the role of the armed forces, which he said had acted according to the will of the people, fulfilling popular demand to remove former president Mohamed Morsi. EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, along with several other European officials, have criticised the current situation and called for the release of Morsi. Since Morsi's ouster, the foreign ministry has been working to present a "correct and proper" image of Egypt to foreign governments, hosting meetings with representatives from the Americas on 7 July, and currently conducting a diplomatic tour of Africa to counter the suspension of Egypt from the African Union on 8 July.
