Court considers freezing assets of Islamists
Published in Daily News Egypt on 22 - 07 - 2013

The North Cairo Criminal Court is considering temporarily seizing assets of 14 leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood and Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya.
Considering the asset seizure came in response to the public prosecution's investigation, which proved that these leaders were responsible for inciting violence towards members of the armed forces at the Republican Guard headquarters clashes, reported state-run Al-Ahram on Monday.
Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) legal advisor Mokhtar Al-Ashry said that the case has been postponed to 21 August, but that he expected former president Mohamed Morsi to be reinstated before then and bring an end to "all these police-like measures."
Al-Ashry said that all the cases are fabricated and "are a form of pressure on the Brotherhood and Islamists," adding: "If I'm accused of incitement, what does [freezing] assets have to do with it?"
According to Al-Ahram, the leaders whose assets will be seized are: Mohamed Badie, supreme guide of the Muslim Brotherhood;Essam Al-Erian, FJP vice chairman;Safwat Hegazy, a Salafi preacher; Mohamed Al-Beltagy, FJP secretary general and member of dissolved people's assembly;Essam Sultan, vice chairman of Al-Wasat Party and member of dissolved people's assembly;Assem Abdel Maged, Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya leader and member of dissolved Shura council; Osama Yasin, FJP leader and former minister of youth;Sobhy Saleh, FJP leader and member of dissolved Shura Council;Bassem Ouda, FJP member and former Minister of Supply; Mohamed Mahsoub, Al-Wasat leader; Mahmoud Ezzat, deputy supreme guide of the Brotherhood;Metwaly Salah Abdel Maqsoud, former Minister of Information;Safwat Abdel Ghany, member of dissolved Shura Council and Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya member; and Abdel Rahman Ezz El-Din.
Last week Public Prosecutor Hisham Barakat ordered the freezing of the financial assets of Brotherhood leaders and other prominent Islamist figures.
