A march by supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi on Sunday in the city of Minya, around 100km southwest of Cairo, resulted in the arrest of 23Muslim Brotherhood members, local news network Al-Masrawy reports. The men were apparently arrested after security forces acted to disperse a crowd of some 500 people, and have had a number of charges levied against them. The charges reportedly ranged from blocking byways to breach of the peace. It is reported that the men will be detained for a period of 15 days pending the investigation. Amid reports of sectarian violence and attacks on Coptic Christian villages in Luxor, Upper Egypt, a number of Coptic Orthodox churches in Minya ended Mass early, the Mogaz news agency reported on Sunday. Fearing further violence, there are reports of heightened security around churches in the city with the cancellation of some Masses for the following week, although the majority remain open as usual. A march is planned in Minya Tuesday evening by supporters of the Brotherhood in memory of those killed in recent clashes across the country.
