The Cairo Criminal Court ordered the release of Alaa and Gamal Mubarak on Monday, postponing the retrial in the case of the killing of protestors to July 6th 2013. The hearing, presided over by Judge Mohamed Kamel Al-Rashidi, approved a request submitted on 11 May by the defence of Alaa and Gamal Mubarak, releasing them from custody under the condition that they are not on trial for other cases. Earlier during the trial, defence lawyers requested additional time to review new evidence that was presented to the court on Monday. Al-Rashidi granted their request. The judge also urged for the immediate inclusion of the forensic report of the police microbus suspected of being used to transport security forces involved in the shooting of protesters on Friday 28 January 2011, according to a report issued by the El-Nadeem Centre. Mubarak, Alaa, Gamal, former Minister of Interior Habib El-Adly and a number of their aides are being tried for the involvement in the killing of protesters and squandering public funds. This is the third retrial of the former president's case. Mubarak was sentenced to life in prison in June 2012, which was appealed by both his lawyers and the prosecution.
