CAIRO: Egypt doctor Ahmed Maged vehemently ruled out that Hossam Ghaly could have taken any performance-enhancing drugs with the national team, but implied he might have done it after the Nations Cup. The Nassr midfielder tested positive for a banned substance on Monday and is thus facing a severe punishment from the Saudi FA. It was reportedly suggested that Ghaly, who has been hit by flu during Egypt s Nations Cup campaign, was treated by drugs to overcome his illness in Angola. But veteran doctor Maged emphasized there is no way he is to be blamed for the problem. Rookie I am not a rookie doctor to make this silly mistake. I have been in this field for 25 years now and I know which substances I should be using for the players, an angry Maged told FilGoal.com. Ghaly hasn't been treated with any medicine when he caught flu. Like all players, he took some vitamins that didn't include any performance-enhancing substances. The last vitamin he had taken was on the 10th of January, so it is impossible to appear in the results of a test that was made a month later in Saudi Arabia! Ghaly left the national team on the 31st of January and I honestly don't know what he has done after that.
