IDC's IT in Government Roadshow in Middle East, Africa tour
Published in Daily News Egypt on 26 - 11 - 2008

DUBAI: The latest installment of IDC s IT in Government Roadshow has been touring the region throughout October and November, opening in Rabat, Morocco, and moving through Midrand, Nairobi, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Ankara, and Abuja, before coming to an end in Cairo on Dec.1.
The conference series has been examining the key factors driving IT investment in the Middle East and Africa (MEA), exploring how to maximize the utilization of new technologies adopted in recent years.
Whether involved in projects looking at mobility, enterprise resource planning, citizen portals, interoperability, or security, ICT decision makers are responsible for shaping the future of MEA public sector operations. With case studies from several of the region s largest public sector organizations, as well as presentations from leading ICT players, IDC s IT in Government Roadshow provides attendees with the necessary knowledge to drive change in their own organizations.
Information sharing and interoperability create new opportunities for improved government service delivery and call for new business and decision-making models to maximize IT value, says Jyoti Lalchandani, vice president and regional managing director of IDC MEA.
Driven largely by public safety needs and riding on a wider array of interoperable communication protocols, government organizations are increasingly sharing information in order to create greater program outcome value. Technology has enabled the early phases of improved citizen interaction with government, but has stopped short of integrated interaction and service delivery, Lalchandani added.
IDC predicts that technology innovations and architectures will drive big changes in government business and IT investment decisions in the coming years, and that the government sector will become much more aggressive in replacing legacy systems. Aimed at CIOs, CTOs, IT department heads, IT managers, and other members of the government sector s ICT community, this conference will examine the hottest topics currently facing governmental organizations, including: Secure computing in government; the advantages of business continuity planning; effective mobile device management to optimize cost efficiency; and outsourcing in the public sector and improving service and technical expertise
IDC has partnered with a host of leading regional and global vendors to ensure that the very latest technology developments will be covered by the Roadshow. The event s Diamond Partners are Acer and Intel, while Symantec, EMC & VAS are Platinum Partners. APC, Blue Coat, Scope, Citrix, Dell, Oracle, Trend Micro and Websense make up the roadshow s roster of Gold Partners.
