CAIRO: Minister of Culture Farouk Hosny and Zahi Hawass, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), visited the Pyramids complex Saturday to inspect the latest of an ongoing renovation program which is designed to make the sight more visitor-friendly but commensurate with its status as a dignified architectural site Guiding the tour was Tariq Aboul Naga, the director of the renovations. Phase two, which will cost about LE 50 million, will continue until next fall and will include better lighting, more paved roads, and new entrance halls. Aboul Naga also emphasized that parking rules will be more strictly regulated, restricting taxis from approaching the entrance of the site. Cars and busses will not be allowed into the area and horses, camels and carts will have specified routes. The goal is to "eliminate the chaos and disorder that has characterized the Pyramids complex in recent years and restore its image as a dignified cultural site, emphasized Aboul Naga.
