CRIME SCENE: One pregnant woman commits suicide, another is beaten by in-laws
Published in Daily News Egypt on 12 - 07 - 2007

CAIRO: A woman jumped to her death from the fourth floor when her husband refused to let her have an abortion, while the parents-in-law of another pregnant married woman beat her brutally to force a miscarriage, reported Al-Masry Al-Youm.
Sabrine, 30, who committed suicide from her Helwan flat, died as she was taken to hospital by her husband. Preliminary investigations showed that the woman was traumatized when she found out that she was pregnant again.
She asked her husband, Mahmoud, 36, a mechanic to help her lose the baby, but he refused and threatened divorce if she did.
After a bout of pregnancy pains and as a result of severe psychological stress, the young woman jumped to her death and died on her way to the hospital, much to distress of her husband, who regretted his actions.
The second case of Samia Mohamed, 29, who lived in Khalifa was completely different, for the newlywed was happy to learn that she was pregnant, but her husband's step-mother wasn't.
On the first day of Samia's marriage, the step-mother expressed her jealousy by treating her badly and forcing her to do all the housework.
When she found out that Samia was pregnant in her fourth month, she asked her to get rid of the baby. When Samia naturally refused, the step-mother took advantage of Samia's husband, feigned a dispute and, along with her father-in-law, began assaulting Samia until she fainted.
The neighbors immediately reported the incident at Al Khalifa prosecutor and investigations proved that the violence committed against her was meant to induce a miscarriage.
Upon interrogation, they both denied the accusation. The prosecution is currently waiting for the forensic report.
