Plump up your lips and get the pout of your dreams
Published in Daily News Egypt on 16 - 02 - 2007

Would you like an Angelina Jolie or an Adriana Lima? Fashion has always been influenced my A-list models and actresses, from their outfits, to their hair styles, and now the latest: their lips.
We're not talking plastic surgery here. Injecting collagen into your lips is a simple procedure you can decide to do on the spur of the moment at your dermatologists - no surgery necessary.
Collagen can increase the size of your upper or lower lip, or both. Some collagen lip injections are used to treat specific areas of the lip and to minimize wrinkles.
The process takes less then ten minutes and can be repeated as many times as you want.
This fad is on a rise in Egypt. Having a sexy pout is in high demand. According to dermatologist Sarah Adel, it is becoming more and more popular with women of all ages because it is so easy.
"I did it because I knew it would look good. I decided on the spot, called a dermatologist and did it straight away, says Yasmine. "My lips look amazing. It feels so normal. it's no big deal.
The pain isn't worse than that of any other shot. Your lips get a little sore at first but nothing drastic.
The average cost in Egypt is LE 1,000 but differs according to the brand of collagen and the clinic you go to.
As your body absorbs collagen naturally, the effect wares off in about six months. Users usually touch up a few times a year.
One of the reasons for its growing popularity is also due to the fact that there are no side effects.
"As long as the material is natural and done by an expert at a specific dose it is safe, says Adel.
She adds however that there have been some incidents in Egypt where people used expired material. In that case it is very dangerous.
Also if the substance is over-used, if a woman wants a high dose injected into her lips, it will cause them to balloon, which looks ridiculous, and the collagen will not be absorbed, hence swelling.
These problems are easily avoided by going to a good doctor that you trust.
But collagen is not the only material to have this effect. Other organic acids, like vegetable acids, are used. Those can be injected in the cheeks as well as lips.
Collagen is also known as injectables, fillers, lip fillers, collagen, wrinkle removal, zyderm and zyplast.
