International Artists Occupy Denmark with Arts
Published in Bikya Masr on 11 - 06 - 2013

One of Scandinavia's largest festivals of contemporary international arts, IMAGES FESTIVAL, takes place in Denmark (Copenhagen, Aalborg and Aarhus) from August 31 – September 7 2013.
A former child soldier from Sudan uses rap to deliver peace messages. Amadou&Mariam from Mali and other world famous musicians from several African, Latin American and Asian countries play amazing concerts. Carpenters from Ghana exhibit 24 ‘crazy coffins' shaped as lions, beer bottles and Danish fishing boats. An artist from Bangladesh paints 500 meters of streets in Aalborg together with Danish pupils. Graffiti artists from the world ́s hotspots color their revolutionary visions on walls and discuss artistic activism. Prizewinning writers from Somalia, Kenya and Zimbabwe write utopian short stories. And a Danish artist builds a floating hotel-island made of recycling materials in the middle of a lake in the center of Copenhagen.
These are just few of the hundreds of artists from developing countries we have invited for IMAGES FESTIVAL 2013. The festival takes place at three spectacular venues in Copenhagen, Aalborg and Aarhus in the period August 30 – September 7. The theme of this year ́s festival is OCCUPY UTOPIA. OCCUPY UTOPIA expresses IMAGES' visions: We believe that arts and creativity create development and challenge our images of the developing world.
Arts create utopias

"Occupy Denmark with arts and create utopias through arts!" This invitation has been sent out to artists from more than 40 countries in Africa, Latin America, The Middle East and Asia. Film directors, dancers, musicians, actors, photographers and performance and visual artists will occupy Denmark with arts that will challenge our images and create new visions for a better world. At IMAGES FESTIVAL 2013 you will get the opportunity to explore what UTOPIA looks, sounds and smells like when a unique diversity of world famous artists from several African, Latin American and European countries get together.
Three spectacular UTOPIA-cities
We build three spectacular UTOPIA-cities in Copenhagen, Aarhus and Aalborg. The famous Queen Louise's Bridge and the surrounding Lakes in the central part of Copenhagen will be the centre of the UTOPIA-city in Copenhagen. The creative environment around Godsbanen in Aarhus will be transformed into the second UTOPIA-city. While the former amusement park Karolinelund in Aalborg will be the central point of the third UTOPIA-city.
