DUBAI: An Indonesian domestic worker has been arrested and charged with "practicing magic" against her employers and "seducing" a 9-year-old boy into having sex with her, police confirmed to Bikyanews.com on Tuesday. The Saudi employer in the western town of Mekka reported the maid to the police, saying she had been involved in sorcery to control all his family members. The maid, according to local reports, later confessed to practicing witchcraft and forcing her employer's son to have sex with her at their house, the Alsaudeh Arabic language daily, which gave no further details. The case has already left many Indonesian maids across the Gulf region crying foul. In Dubai, S. Mohamed, a 22-year-old house worker for a wealthy family, told Bikyanews.com that she was concerned for the woman's safety and life, arguing that "Indonesians don't practice witchcraft or any of these accusations." She continued that "we are a Muslim people and country, so I don't know where this sorcery stuff comes from. It seems out of the ordinary." It is not the first time Saudi Arabia has charged foreigners with magic and sorcery. In recent years, a number of foreigners have been put to death for allegedly practicing magic in the ultra-conservative Gulf country. BN
