ALEXANDRIA: Hundreds of protesters and activists in Alexandria marched from al-Qaed Ibrahim Mosque to the city council which is the local municipality's temporary headquarters to demand sacking governor Mohamed Atta Abbas and his deputy Hassan al-Brens. Leaked reports for the Freedom and Justice Party revealed that al-Brens, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, will be appointed as Alexandria's governor in the imminent governors' reshuffle. The protesters demanded immediately investigating a statement for the current governor in which he admitted that the city's administrative body was "brotherhoodized" behind his back. The protesters chanted slogans against the Muslim Brotherhood and al-Brens such as "Alexandria is free and al-Brens is out" and lifted banners carrying al-Brens photos with the words "Wanted for popular justice" written on them. At al-Mursi Abul Abbas Mosque, scores of Sufists demonstrated to express their support for al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb against what they called attempts to undermine his reputation in order to brotherhoodize this post. The demonstrators also denounced the calls of some Salafi parties and Islamist current to disband the National Security Force, adding that they will stand against attempts to eliminate state bodies.
