SAN FRANCISCO: A wildfire has broken out in southern California, affecting some two and a half square miles in Riverside County south of Los Angeles. The fires are also being moved by the wind and are also in areas north of San Francisco in wine country. According to local reports, the "fast-moving wildfire about 90 miles east of Los Angeles broke out just after noon. Winds of 29 mph have been driving the fire westward through largely undeveloped foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains, but it is dangerously close to subdivisions to the south, in the city of Banning." Areas of southern California are currently under warning from the fire as a result of high heat, winds and low humidity levels. Some 400 firefighters are in the area east of LA attempting to contain and gain control of the flames as helicopters douse the area with water. In northern California, the Yellow Fire in Sonoma County is less than half contained after burning 125 acres. The Silverado Fire in Napa County has burned a smaller area and was 75 percent contained. This is where much of California's wine country is located. BN
