CAIRO: Egypt's High Administrative Court turned down on Sunday challenges filed by the State Lawsuits Authority against a court order to suspend upcoming parliamentary elections. The court had adjourned the case last month to grant the president and the ministry of justice time to submit their approvals on the appeals filed on their behalf. The court's board of commissioners had advised against accepting the appeals but its recommendations are not binding on the court. The election of a new house of representatives was supposed to take place in April when a court order halted its procedures, referring its law to the High Constitutional Court to review its legality. The State Lawsuits Authority had filed a challenge on behalf of the president, the Shura Council and the Justice Ministry, saying that the ruling is flawed and restricts the president's right to exercise his political powers. The court struck down the legal challenges on Sunday, supporting the court decision to suspend the election. BN
