LAGOS: In a continued effort to help spur mobile phone and telecommunications growth in Namibia, the government announced that it was to budget a large portion to host the 8th International Conference on ICT for Development, Education and Training. The conference, which will be hosted in the Namibian capital, Windhoek, between May 29-31, will see the government put forward NAD 5 million for the honor. “The eighth e-learning Africa conference is expected to receive between 1,500 and 2,000 delegates, including 300 speakers and chairpeople from over 50 countries," said a statement from the conference organizers. The conference's overall theme is “tradition, change and innovation" and it will examine experiences, projects, policies, partnerships and research that are shaping the continent's e-learning landscape. Namibia's ICT Minister Joel Kaapanda said the conference “will include a ministerial roundtable with panel discussions on the country's policies and use of ICT in the education sector." It comes as Namibia looks for new ways of bolstering its telecom sector, which has seen a number of operators offer new promotions in order to see a larger number of users join the networks. BN
