RAMALLAH: On Wednesday Israeli soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian and injured another in the occupied West Bank. Lubna Munir Hanash, a 22-year-old university student, died after soldiers entered the Al-Arruba refugee camp in a civilian car and opened fire on a group of people, witnesses told Ma'an News Agency. After being directly hit in the head by a bullet, Hanash died. Another man, Suhur Jaara, suffered a bullet strike in the hand, and was transferred to the Ahli hospital in Hebron. An Israeli army spokeswoman told Ma'an that soldiers were returning fire after being attacked with firebombs launched from the camp. On Wednesday morning, Salih Al-Amarin, a 15-year-old from Bethlehem's Azza refugee camp, died from wounds sustained after being shot during clashes with Israeli military forces. Last week, 17-year-old Samir Abdul Rahim was shot and killed by Israeli forces in Budrus, a village near Ramallah. According to Ma'an, at least six Palestinians have been shot dead by Israeli forces this month alone. A military crackdown The deaths come amid a series of sweeping arrests and raids in the occupied West Bank, along with a marked increase in violent incidents between soldiers and civilians. On Wednesday night, four Palestinians were arrested in military raids in Beit Duqqu, Sanniriya, and Hebron. According to a Facebook update posted on Wednesday by Addameer Prisoner Support Network, a 29-year-old youth activist, Hassan Karajeh, was arrested “by a large convoy of [Israeli] soldiers" during a raid on his home near Ramallah on Tuesday night. “Hassan is a well-respected youth organizer, who works on prisoner issues and youth rights. He is a youth coordinator for the grassroots organization Stop the Wall and organizes tours for Palestinian youth to learn about their homeland," the update said. “Hassan was engaged last month and is planning to have his wedding in June of this year." At least three more were detained during house raids in Hebron on Wednesday, locals told Ma'an. Islam Awad Shaker Bader, Ramzi Mahmoud Bader, and Ahmer Mohammed Bader were arrested for reasons yet to be made public by the military. A 17-year-old boy from Kafr Qaddum, Ibrahim Hasan, told Ma'an that he was beat by soldiers at a checkpoint near Nablus. They soldiers said it was “retaliation to the weekly rally," he added. BN
