RAMALLAH: At the 3rd Arab Summit of Economic, Social and Development held in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, Secretary General of the Arab League called on the Arab world to support Palestine, reports the Palestine News Network. “Palestine has serious problems in health, employment and economy. I call on Arab countries and the international community to help Palestine” Nabil Al-Araby requested on Monday. The request comes days after Saudi Arabia agreed to grant Palestine $100 million in light of the Israeli government's withholding of tax revenue collected on behalf of the Palestinian Authority. The goal of the summit is to increase economic integration amongst Arab countries as well as methods to reach the Millennium Development Goals set by the UN. The participating countries in the summit include Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Sultanate of Oman, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Palestine, Yemen, Libya, Mauritania, Somalia, Djibouti, and Comoros Islands, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, the host country. Before becoming the Secretary General of the Arab League, Al-Araby was the Egyptian Foreign Minister in the interim government of EssamSharaf and acted as a liaison between protesters in Egypt and the Mubarak government. Al-Araby began his career with the Egyptian government as a Legal Adviser and Director in the Legal and Treaties Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1976 to 1978 and was a legal advisor to the Egyptian Camp David delegation.
