Published in Bikya Masr on 20 - 01 - 2013

DUBAI: One of the European Golf Tour's most eagerly awaited tournaments, the annual OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic, will tee off on January 28th at the Emirates Golf Club, bringing world-class golf to Dubai for the 23rd year. OMEGA resumes its title sponsorship in 2013, reinforcing its long-standing relationship with Dubai Desert Classic and support of golfing excellence here in the UAE and around the world.
“The OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic continues to be a high-calibre event for loyal golf fans in Dubai and internationally," said Raynald Aeschlimann, Vice President and International Sales Director of OMEGA. He added, “The OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic has immense international appeal and it continues to grow in stature year by year, making it one of the most prestigious golfing events in both Dubai and the region."
This year's OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic is proud to announce two of Omega's own golfing ambassadors, Sergio Garcia of Spain and Korean star SY Noh, will join many of the world's top- ranked stars, including defending champion Spaniard Rafael Cabrera-Bello and Lee Westwood of England, who are also competing in the strong line-up.
OMEGA is one of the most prominent watch brands in the world, with a history and tradition of promoting the sport of golf. OMEGA plays a crucial role in making golf a truly global sport and its title sponsorships include the OMEGA European Masters played each September in Switzerland. In 2011, OMEGA entered into a partnership with The PGA of America as a patron of the world's largest professional sporting organization.
It provides the tournament watch and serves as official timekeeper at The PGA Championship, one of golf's four “Majors", and the Ryder Cup when it is contested in the United States.
The OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic has been part of the European Tour since its inception in 1989. This year the appearance of golfing superstar Sergio Garcia also marks the 10th anniversary of his partnership as an Omega brand ambassador.
“With a global reputation built on technological innovation and design excellence, OMEGA has been proud to be involved in the timekeeping and sponsorship of many of the world's international sporting events that included the London Olympics last year. The OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic is growing tremendously and we are proud to be associated with them as a title sponsor." said Nayla Hayek, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Swatch Group.
