KUALA LUMPUR: A chocolate-laden truck rammed into 8 Propel employees who were conducting highway maintenance on the North-South Expressway near Gopeng early Wednesday, killing four of the workers and injuring the other four, police confirmed to Bikyamasr.com. One officer said the four injured workers are currently in stable condition and he expected them to survive the incident. Perak Chief Police Officer Mohamad Shukri Dahalan said the accident happened at about 4.30 am as the truck went out of control while going down an incline during a drizzle. Before mowing down the workers of Propel, the truck crashed into four vehicles, used by the Propel workers, parked on the emergency lane, he said. These were a Proton Iswara car, an MPV, a van and a small truck. Mohamad Shukri said the driver and attendant were also injured in the accident. He identified the dead Propel workers as Ismady Mohd Rodzi, 32, of Kulim, Kedah; Shaharuddin Abd Aziz, 51, of Kuala Kangsar, Perak; Mohd Shafie Ismail, 56, of Taman Shatin, Ipoh; and Hafiz Yunus, 39, of Kuala Lumpur. Road accidents have been reducing in recent years in Malaysia as more stringent measures are taken to ensure the country's highways are safer for drivers and workers.
