CAIRO: Angry responses to United States television star Kim Kardashian have met the reality figure's recent statement on the micro-blogging site Twitter, where she said she was “praying for everyone in Israel.” The result saw a massive outpouring of anger from some of her 17 million followers, who demanded she show solidarity and support for the civilians in Gaza who were being killed in continuous air strikes by Israel. According to reports, she received death threats, which may have been a reason for a second tweet where she called for people to “pray” for Palestinians. In the end, however, both tweets were removed from her account. One Arab on Twitter wrote in response to her calls to support Israel, “a dumb bitch is going to pray for the country inflicting violence? This is our world today.” Others were just as angry, lashing out at the star, who came to stardom after appearing in a number of reality programs on American television. The outpouring of criticism shows how the micro-blogging site plays an important role in public opinion on international events. Kardashian, who was welcomed in Dubai recently, has a large Arab following, as her show, “Keeping up with the Kardashians” appears on the OSN network satellite.
