CAIRO: France Telecom Orange's subsidiary Sofrecom Tunisia has official been inaugurated and has the French telecom giant optimistic about its continued role in the North African country as it pushes forward in the post-revolution period. The new subsidiary was officially launched on Thursday evening in the capital, the company said. Speaking to journalists in a prepared statement, the new company said “the choice of Tunisia is not fortuitous, but is based on the results of a comprehensive study conducted to this end.” The launching of the subsidiary aims to develop France Telecom's efforts to maintain its footprint in Africa and the Tunisian market is seen as one with the greatest potential considering its recent movement in the ICT sector over the past few months. Recently, the country announced its push toward a complete 3G network in order to take advantage of the rise in mobile phone users in the country following their January 2011 uprising that ousted the former regime. France Telecom believes that by having the subsidiary in the country it can help boost the overall services provided and continue to make inroads on the goal of universal penetration of the mobile market in the country.
