RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazilians are already beginning to whet their appetites, and getting their wallets ready, for the arrival of the iPhone 5 in the country. Although the iPhone 5 still has no official launch date in Brazil, the country's telecommunications regulator Anatel announced it had authorised the sale of the new smartphone. According to official documents from the regulator, “the smartphone will be manufactured at a unit of Foxconn in Jundiai, in Sao Paulo and at a Chinese plant.” For Brazilians this is welcome news. “I am so excited about the new phone,” Rio-based marketing consultant Nina Joao told Bikyamasr.com on Tuesday morning as she heard the news. “It will be great to have the newest technology in a timely fashion.” However, Apple and local mobile operators have yet to confirm a date for the start of sales in Brazil. If Apple should sell the iPhone 5 at the same price as the iPhone 4S – repeating what happened in the USA – the mobile phone will cost from BRL 1999.
