A BBC Arabic investigation which revealed that assets belonging to the Mubarak regime still remain unfrozen in the UK, violating an EU international sanctions agreement, has prompted new action from the UK government. In response to the investigation, the UK Foreign Office issued statements in London and Cairo and the British Foreign Secretary William Hague pledged to President Morsi that the UK Government would send an asset recovery expert from London to work with the Egyptian government. In a new reaction, British Prime Minister David Cameron said in his address yesterday to the United Nation's General Assembly that it is simply not good enough that the Egyptian people continue to be denied these assets long after Mubarak has gone. “Today I am announcing a new British Task Force to work with the Egyptian government to gather evidence, trace assets, work to change EU law and pursue the legal cases that will return this stolen money to its rightful owners," he added.
