NEW DELHI: Pakistan on Monday freed 48 Indian fishermen jailed in the southern port city of Karachi as part of a goodwill gesture to its neighbor. The group of fishermen had been taken to the Wagah land border crossing where they will be repatriated to India, Press Trust of India reported. The move came following President Asif Ali Zardari's announcement on Saturday that all Indian fishermen serving time in Pakistani prisons, including those yet to complete their terms, would be freed. The Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum has called for Pakistani fishermen in Indian jails to be released as a reciprocal gesture. A total of 428 Pakistani nationals including 85 fishermen are currently serving their sentences in Indian prisons.
