The decision of the Indian government to violate orders from the High Court and Supreme Court by raising the water levels in Madhya Pradesh at Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar has caused dismay and desperation among the local inhabitants. Many have not even been identified, and those who have been identified have not been adequately compensated by the government. 51 of the activists at Gogalgonw, in the Omkareshwar Damn catchment area, are committed to the death, meaning that they will not leave the water even if the government drown them. In solidarity, other villagers are joining them in the water for a day at a time. The Jal (“water”) Satyagrah is being taken up by activists in Dehli. The Delhi Solidarity Group (DSG) read out a strong memorandum to the representative for Madhya Pradesh in Dehli, expressing their dismay and anger at the treatment of the villagers. They demanded the immediate reduction of the water levels, and implementation of the “rehabilitation and resettlement” plan as approved by the Supreme Court and the Grievance Redressal Authority. The difficulty of being in water for two weeks, alongside the bleeding caused by various insects and animals inside the catchment area, is affecting the protestors. However, the Jal Satyagraph continues. The veteran activist Chitrarupa Palit (Silvie) explains the background to the Jal Satyagrah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS9a4UvX6HM&
