KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian archaeologists have unearthed several artifacts at two excavation sites in Bukit Jugra, Banting dating to the 19th century. The artifacts include pottery fragments, metal tools and broken tiles. The discovery was made by 21 students from Universiti Malaya led by History and Social Science Department senior lecturer, Professor Mohd Supian Sabtu. They are believed to be the former sites of the district office and tax collection office during the era of Sultan Abdul Samad who ruled Selangor from 1859 to 1898. “The excavation work which began on June 18 will continue until December,” Selangor Malay Customs and Heritage Corporation (Padat) chairman Shafie Abu Bakar told reporters. Padat chief executive officer Azlinda Azman said the pottery fragments were from China and Netherlands while the metal tools were for construction. She said the excavation team also found an old palace site at Bukit Jugra which they have yet to explore.
