KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is currently bracing for a potential RM1 billion scandal involving the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat government after MCA Youth Professionals Bureau Chief Chua Tee Yong issued a series of statements on his Twitter account on Sunday saying he would expose “scandal involving RM1bil worth of wheeling and dealing". In the tweets, Chua said he had received information on the deals that were kept concealed through complicated transactions. He added that the deals made were related to asset transfers, restructuring tactics and corporate exercises, but said there was more that he would reveal. “As Pakatan Rakyat claims to champion transparency, I challenge them to disclose details of the transactions," said Chua, who is also the Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister. Chua, who is an accountant and former chief financial officer of a government-linked company, said: “I will disclose more details so that the rakyat can judge if Pakatan Rakyat walks the talk, or merely makes empty promises." The Selangor government has not publicly responded the attacks, but many observers in the country tell Bikyamasr.com that it could explode and shock the country, which has been hit by a number of recent financial scandals in recent weeks, including a French submarine deal that has come under attack after years of silence. “I think it is important to have transparency and if this is how we will clean up government, then I think it is a good thing for Malaysia,” Kuala Lumpur-based account Steven Papak told Bikyamasr.com on Monday afternoon. He argued that “government must be accountable to the people and hopefully we will see this become a reality in the country.”
