KUALA LUMPUR: Two Malaysian citizens are currently being investigated in Indonesia for allegedly assisting the wife of a politician to evade authorities in the country, the Jakarta Post reported. Neneng Sri Wahyuni is the wife of Muhammad Nazaruddin, the former treasurer of Indonesia's ruling Democratic Party who has been convicted for graft. She was reportedly involved in a bribery case, for an Indonesian government contract for solar power equipment worth $940,575 (RM2.9 million) was issued in 2008. Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) yesterday quizzed Neneng about two Malaysians who had reportedly returned with her to the country. KPK reportedly said the duo may be slapped with the country's anti-corruption law if they were found to have obstructed investigations by aiding or abetting Neneng in her avoidance of Indonesia's authorities. KPK deputy chairman Bambang Widjojanto had claimed that the two could be advisers to a Malaysian sultanate and have connections to Merah Holdings, a Malaysian government-owned company. However, Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Munshe Afdzaruddin Syed Hassan last week said the two do not have any ties with Malaysian royalty. “It may be better to wait for further confirmation of their identities because investigations are currently ongoing," he reportedly said. Neneng's lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea said Neneng did not know the two who came on the same flight as her. She has since fled to Malaysia and the Jakarta Post reported that she allegedly returned to Indonesia to shift her assets abroad.
