CAIRO: Egypt's pro-democracy April 6 Youth Movement renewed their refusal of old regime loyalist Ahmed Shafiq on Friday, saying they would not accept his presidency if he is victorious in the run-off that began today in Egypt. Millions of Egyptians will head to the polls on June 16 and 17 to choose between Shafiq and the Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi. The revolutionary group endorsed Morsi earlier this week, saying they cannot vote for Shafiq, who represents the “30-year oppression of the ousted regime.” Military man Shafiq was imprisoned Hosni Muabark's last prime minister during the 18 days of the uprising that ousted his reign. He openly boasts about being Mubarak's disciple, calling the former dictator his “role model.” The Supreme Constitutional Court ruled on Thursday to keep Shafiq in the race after it said the political isolation law, or “Azl,” was unconstitutional. The court also ordered the dissolving of one-third of parliament, independent seats, for violating the election regulations, which would lead to suspending the parliament and possibly nullifying it entirely. April 6 organized a large march where hundreds of its members marched from Mohandiseen to Tahrir Square rejecting the court's order and calling for the ousting of Shafiq.
