New Delhi: An Algerian terrorist who was a Pakistan-trained member of the Al Qaeda, had been ordered to attack the Indian Embassy in Paris this year, a leading French newspaper has claimed. The Le Monde, one of France's most popular newspapers, quoting French intelligence sources however said that the 23-year-old Algerian was shot dead by French security forces before he could execute his terror assignment. “That was the target given him by the Taliban who prepared him for jihad during his training in Pakistan in the summer of 2011,” Le Monde said quoting sources from the French intelligence. Reacting to the French news paper's revelations, the Indian union ministry for external affairs (MEA) in a statement issued here said that the Indian embassy in Paris was “fully alert to security issues”. “The ministry is in regular contact with embassies abroad for detailed review of the security situation from time to time. Paris is one of the stations where the security requirements of the embassy are reviewed in consultation with the ministry,” MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said. The French news report also said that the Algerian had been specifically given instructions to execute the terror attack on the Indian embassy in Paris by his Taliban handlers located in Pakistan.
