NAIROBI: The Telecommunication markets in Uganda have been growing exponentially. These changes have attributed in sectors such as the growth of 3G and more market rivals seeking to make their products and services available and affordable to subscribers. Godfrey Mutabaazi, Executive Director at Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) commented that Telecoms should not compromise quality of service at the cost of expansion. He noted this to Telecommunication industries urging them to not only focus on expansion but also make it a key call to improve the services that they are offering to their subscribers. “We have been stuck with the problem of quality of service for the last couple of years, and this has worsened in the last few months. This is something that must be addressed,” he added. As a counter to this, Sriram Yarlagadda, CEO at Warid commented that there are efforts that have been put in place to tackle such challenges but some factors such as power outages, high fuel prices and related business costs still are a headache in the delivery of good services. Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is the prime regulator of the communications industry in Uganda that seeks to regulate and promote the developments in the communications industry.
